Overview
As a self-initiated project within Globant’s Design Studio, I explored Augmented Reality (AR) technologies to push the boundaries of immersive digital experiences. What started as an individual experiment in 3D modeling, spatial mapping, and interactive AR filters evolved into a recognized initiative, leading to the creation of an AR Pod within the company.
Through this initiative, I designed and developed engaging AR filters for DesignNXT, which gained over 10,000 views on Instagram, proving the power of AR-driven engagement. This success inspired company-wide adoption of AR and established a dedicated AR innovation team.
Problem Statement
🚀 AR was an untapped opportunity at Globant, with no structured team or projects.
📱 No existing frameworks for AR experimentation within the Design Studio.
🎨 The challenge was to demonstrate the value of AR for engagement and product innovation.
Goals & Objectives
✅ Explore AR’s potential through hands-on experimentation with Blender, Adobe Aero, and Spark AR and hosting platform like 8thWall.
✅ Create immersive AR filters for Globant’s DesignNXT event to showcase digital interactivity.
✅ Drive internal awareness & adoption of AR as a viable design tool.
✅ Build a foundation for an AR-focused team within the company.
My Role & Responsibilities
🔹 Initiated & Led the AR Exploration – Researched AR trends, pitched ideas, and built proof-of-concepts.
🔹 3D Asset Creation & Spatial Mapping – Modeled interactive AR elements using Blender & Adobe Aero.
🔹 Logic & Gamification – Developed quiz-based AR filters to enhance engagement.
🔹 Social Media & Event Deployment – Launched AR filters for DesignNXT, gathering 10K+ views on Instagram.
🔹 AR Evangelism & Team Formation – Advocated for AR adoption, leading to the formation of an official AR Pod.
Process & Approach
1. Research & Concept Development
- Conducted an AR technology audit (Spark AR, Adobe Aero, 8th Wall).
- Experimented with 3D scanning & real-world mapping using my own workspace.
- Created proof-of-concept AR interactions to showcase potential use cases.
2. 3D Asset Creation & Environment Mapping
- Designed low-poly 3D models in Blender for optimized AR rendering.
- Conducted a full 3D scan of my room, experimenting with spatial AR interactions.
- Built interactive overlays and animations for immersive engagement.
3. Interactivity & Logic Development
- Developed gesture-based controls, quizzes, and real-time interactions using Spark AR.
- Added gamification elements to increase user engagement.
- Ensured seamless UX through iterative testing.
4. Deployment & Recognition
- Filters were launched at DesignNXT, achieving 10K+ Instagram views.
- Work was recognized by leadership, leading to a dedicated AR Pod at Globant.
- Hosted internal AR workshops to train designers and developers.
- Gave a talk on "Introduction to Spark AR" at DesignNXT 2023.
